This is just simple stuff I use everyday; and some stuff that happens only once, but nice to keep track of, in case.

Our company has recently started to install windows 10 on all new laptops and also upgrades for those who want to move to windows 10. Very few windows 8.x hosts in our office. However, we do use many win8.1 VMs. One of my permanent VMs is 8.1 x64 and I use this for all of my AD/admin tasks.
After I had finished imaging 2 new laptops with our corp win 10 image, I also imagined my business laptop to windows 10; two things I had to figure out right away; the edge browser doesn't work with many of our internal web sites so I needed to install/activate internet explorer 11 on windows 10:

Then uninstall from programs and features the "DefaultTab" app; then full virus/malware scan; also malwarebytes full scan to remove the last vestiges of this problem app. Probably installed with some yahoo bar thingee, but not sure.

More stuff I deal with each day (This is good job security!)
Friday 25 Feb 2016
1-week-long AE training is over; set up network connections for over 70 users in the multi-purpose room. Now I am getting it all straightened out and put away, so much easier to deploy next time.
2-a couple of days ago, I was using my win7 enterprise laptop (my normal work laptop) to prepare our corporate image flashdrive to reimage a problem laptop (dell precision m3800); we use a process which involves 'diskpart' utility and I selected and cleaned the wrong disk (seagate 4TB external hd I use for all my backups); now I am using a utility (active@ partition recovery) to see if it will repair the wiped out partition record; so far it is showing the folder/files that were there and hopefully, after finishing the quick scan (quick=several hours) it will just all get put back together and I won't have to copy to another hd to recover. Paid $35 to download and use; cheap if it works.
Actually, used another utility active@undelete to accomplish recovering all of the backups I had made in the past 3-4 months.

My Install of mintstick app on Ubuntu 16.04 x64
2019-11-05; update: I now use Rufus utility to create all my bootable usb flash drives from ISO image file because it seems to work in every case; not so with either mint stick on linux mint or "disks" on ubuntu.
How to install the LinuxMint 17.x version of application/accessories/USB Image Writer & USB Stick Formatter on Ubuntu 16.04 x64.
(NOTE: this is probably a more convoluted route to do this install than others may accomplish!)
1) First had to figure out what is the specific package installed on LM so I can find the downloadable .deb package for these 2 utilities.
2) google search for "USB Stick Formatter" & "USB Image Writer"; found this URL which let me know the name is "mintstick".
http://linuxg.net/how-to-install-mintstick-1-2-1-on-ubuntu-14-04-pinguy-os-14-04-deepin-2014-lxle-14-04-and-other-ubuntu-14-04-derivatives/
3) Another way I found out the underlying name of these 2 utilities (actually just one app with 2 functions) was to look in the linux mint 17.3 /usr/share/applications and find the 2 USB Image/Stick Formatter icons there, right-click them and select properties to see the actual command line used to run them, ie "mintstick".
4) After searching around, I found this URL for mintstick d/l:
http://mirror.stjschools.org/public/linuxmint-packages/list.php?release=Sarah
or
http://mirror.stjschools.org/public/linuxmint-packages/pool/main/m/mintstick/
search for "mintstick" on that page; shows mintstick ver 1.2.8; downloaded this package: mintstick_1.2.8_all.deb 2016-04-22 04:39 21
5) And after more searching, found this "official" dl location (link on this spanish webpage: http://www.muylinux.com/2015/07/21/live-usb-mintstick)
http://packages.linuxmint.com/pool/main/m/mintstick/
Now, how to install on Ubuntu 16.04?
6) how to install a .deb file from terminal:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/40779/how-do-i-install-a-deb-file-via-the-command-line
sudo dpkg -i DEB_PACKAGE
if there are errors due to dependencies, run this command to install the dependencies:
sudo apt-get install -f
(See below for the output from these 2 commands).
7) First attempt to run the mintstick program gave this error:
$ mintstick
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/lib/mintstick/mintstick.py", line 10, in <module>
from gi.repository import GObject, Gio, Polkit, Gtk, GLib, UDisks
ImportError: No module named gi.repository
8) google search on this error and looked at this URL: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=204849
suggested to install the python-gobject module; used synaptic packmgr, seached on "python-gobject" and selected the uninstalled "python-gobject" and installed it. Now it all works.
Looking in /usr/share/applications shows the 2 icons for "USB Image Writer" & "USB Stick Formater"; I right-clicked the icon for each, permissions tab, and checked the "Allow executing file as program" check box.
Using the DASH, search for "usb" to bring up these apps and run from there.
